It got much colder in the last couple days. Quite suddenly too. One day it was hot and humid and the next, it's a cool and crisp Autumn day. I absolutely love it. I've been dreaming about that fresh air smell and the cool breeze while the sun is shining in your face. My favorite combination.
Another new favorite - our Saturdays. Mostly, because we're all together after a week of work and school, and also because of the Farmer's Market next to our house. It's becoming a tradition that every Saturday morning after breakfast, we go to the market and get our week's worth of veggies and fruits. We have found a few favorite stands, and we're starting to get a handle on the best local ingredients and how to prepare them. A few new discoveries include "moule frites" (mussels with fries), a huge variety of olives and marinated garlic (yum!), tomatoes that are unbelievably flavorful. The stands are so beautiful and colorful full of mostly local produce that I wish I could go to the market every day. Oh and Dominykas got a skateboard (in Barcelona) last weekend. He's been practicing and getting better every day! His second favorite thing after the bike.

Another weekend in South of France. Another weekend riding bikes and going to the Farmer’s market on Saturday. Then, a must visit to the pool in the afternoon. At first going to the pool was a very intimidating experience, and the first time we went we had to turn around. With tears streaming down both of the kids’ faces, we walked the longest 10min back home. Apparently, you are not allowed to swim with swim shorts and without swimming caps. We only had shorts and no swimming caps. So, a trip to a sporting goods store was a must and asap. One hundred euros later, bags full of new bathing gear, swim suits etc, we were determined (and promised 1000000 times to the kids) that we will go again. We went back. We swam. Now it doesn't seem to be that big of a deal... Men are looking great in their tight little swimming trunks. All women look even better with swimming caps (I especially look very attractive with the amount of hair I have to hide under the cap!), and kids are just happy to be in the water. Dominykas learned how to jump off the ledge and how to swim under water (but not above and only with one hand, because he has to hold his nose with the other). Liepa loves jumping into the pool more than anything, and loves telling everyone how she swims, "with my feet and hands" and does the motions super fast.
It is +30-35C every day. I'll take the awkward moments at the pool any day as long as we're able to cool off. (We usually walk to the pool which is 10min from our house.) |
